Iguazu, Salta, El Calafate & Ushuaia

20 days

A Tailor-Made 20-Day Grand Argentina Journey From the Tropics to Patagonia

Jhimy Sante

Presented by Jhimy Sante, Your Local Expert

Experience Argentina from the subtropical north to the far south on a customizable 20-day journey. Combine Buenos Aires, both sides of Iguazu Falls, Salta and the Northwest, Perito Moreno Glacier, Tierra del Fuego and the Beagle Channel in one broad cross-country itinerary.

The standard route begins in Buenos Aires, continues through Iguazu and Salta, then moves south to El Calafate and Ushuaia before returning to Buenos Aires for a full buffer and farewell day.

A U.S.-optimized routing may enter through Sao Paulo and Foz do Iguacu before continuing to Salta, Buenos Aires and Patagonia. That alternative reduces backtracking while preserving the same core experiences and 20-day duration.

20-Day Argentina Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Buenos Aires

Arrival assistance and private transfer to the hotel. The first day stays light after the international journey.

Day 2: Buenos Aires highlights

Explore the historic center, San Telmo, La Boca, Puerto Madero, Recoleta and Palermo with a private English-speaking guide. Tango may be quoted as an optional evening experience.

Day 3: Buenos Aires at your pace

Choose the Tigre Delta, gastronomy, architecture, art and design, shopping or independent time.

Day 4: Early flight to Iguazu and first Argentine circuit

Take an early flight from Buenos Aires to Puerto Iguazu. After arrival and transfer, begin the shorter Argentine-side circuit the same day, using the afternoon efficiently without trying to cover the full park.

Day 5: Argentine side - longer circuit and main viewpoints

Return to the Argentine park for the longer circuit and the principal sectors not completed on arrival day, prioritizing Devil's Throat when accessible and allowing time for viewpoints, photographs and breaks.

Day 6: Brazilian side, Parque das Aves and final Iguazu night

Cross to Brazil for the panoramic side of Iguazu Falls and continue to Parque das Aves. The duty-free stop is included only when practical, then return to the selected Iguazu-area hotel for the final night before continuing to Salta.

Day 7: Direct flight from Iguazu to Salta and light city afternoon

Use the nonstop Iguazu to Salta service when it operates on the required date. After arrival and hotel transfer, the afternoon stays light with Plaza 9 de Julio, the Cathedral, San Francisco Church, the historic center and, if timing allows, Cerro San Bernardo.

Day 8: Salta and the Northwest at your pace

Use the day for a slower introduction to northwestern Argentina, additional time in Salta, a nearby cultural excursion or rest before the longer road journeys.

Day 9: Quebrada de Humahuaca

Travel through the multicolored landscapes and historic villages of the Quebrada de Humahuaca. Stops may include Purmamarca, Tilcara and Humahuaca according to timing and road conditions.

Day 10: Cafayate or a slower Northwest experience

Choose the dramatic road and wines of Cafayate, a culture-focused village program or a relaxed day in Salta. A second night in the Quebrada can be substituted for travelers who prefer less driving.

Day 11: Travel to El Calafate

Fly south to El Calafate, normally through Buenos Aires. This is a substantial travel day and final schedules avoid unrealistic connections.

Day 12: Perito Moreno Glacier

Visit Los Glaciares National Park, explore the walkways facing Perito Moreno Glacier and include a short navigation. Ice trekking remains an optional upgrade for eligible travelers.

Day 13: Patagonian landscapes your way

Choose a glacier navigation, traditional estancia experience, lighter nature outing or independent time in El Calafate.

Day 14: Fly to Ushuaia

Take the nonstop El Calafate to Ushuaia service when available, transfer to the hotel and enjoy a relaxed introduction to Ushuaia.

Day 15: Tierra del Fuego National Park

Explore forests, bays, lakes and selected walking trails. The route can be adapted from panoramic and relaxed to moderately active.

Day 16: Beagle Channel

Navigate the Beagle Channel for islands, seabirds, sea lions and mountain scenery, subject to weather and seasonal routing.

Day 17: Ushuaia at your pace

Use the third full Ushuaia day for a 4x4 lakes excursion, museum and gastronomy time, a moderate hike or another seasonal activity matched to the traveler.

Day 18: Fly to Buenos Aires and farewell afternoon

Take a morning or midday nonstop flight from Ushuaia to Buenos Aires whenever practical. Use the afternoon for a relaxed activity such as Recoleta and El Ateneo, Palermo parks and cafes, Puerto Madero at sunset, or an optional farewell dinner or wine experience.

Day 19: Buenos Aires buffer / farewell day

A full day in Buenos Aires before the international departure. Use it for a relaxed neighborhood visit, shopping, gastronomy, museums, an optional tango or wine experience, or simply as an operational buffer after Patagonia.

Day 20: International departure from Buenos Aires

Transfer to Ezeiza for the international journey. This final Buenos Aires night is part of the base design rather than forcing a same-day Ushuaia to international connection.
